Since I was 18 years old, I struggled with joint pains and inflammation in various parts of my body – ribs, eyes, sacro-ileac, etc.  In my early 20’s, it was sometimes so debilitating, that I could barely move my leg without being in excruciating pain.  I lived on and off Prednisone (a steroid used to treat inflammation) all through my adult years and then in later years, I had to take more significant medications to further surpress my immune system.

I never slept right through the night and often had to take sleeping tablets.  Irrespective of what I did, the first words I uttered every day when I woke up were “ I am so exhausted.”

Since changing the way I eat (based on training I did via America through Dietitians working successfully with clients with auto-immune diseases), I have not had to take any medication for joint flare-ups at all (not even anti-inflammatories or Panadol).  This has been for 6 months!  I have had no pain in that time, other than when I did my food challenges.  This is the first time I have ever been pain free for more than a few days.

In addition, I never need sleeping tablets, as I now don’t have issues with sleeping, and I wake up feeling refreshed every day.

Diet doesn’t cure the disease, but it may be one of the triggers.  It is exciting for me to be able to share this knowledge with others and to see if I can give other people freedom from living with joint pains.

When I first came to Diane, I was very unwell. I had vertigo, was nauseas constantly, I had lost over 20 kg in weight and was very skinny. I was tired all the time, run down, had constant colds and throat infections, and was having difficulty swallowing, brain fog, migraines, had reflux etc. and the list went on. I've got a new lease on life and I'm pain free!

For the last 10 years I have been struggling with chest and stomach pains – which also at times led to feeling light headed and feeling like I was going to pass out. And every morning I would wake feeling horrible. I lacked energy, felt constantly wiped out, was extremely irritable and on a whole I felt totally miserable ... Not only am I feeling way better, I have felt like I have more energy and have been less grumpy with all that stress off my shoulders.

For the last 10 years I have been struggling with chest and stomach pains – which also at times led to feeling light headed and feeling like I was going to pass out.  And every morning I would wake feeling horrible. I lacked energy, felt constantly wiped out, was extremely irritable and on a whole I felt totally miserable.
I had been to the doctor on numerous occasions to try and solve the problems I was having – every  blood test, heart test, endoscopies etc all said I was perfectly healthy – which although was great to hear was also very frustrating because I didn’t feel healthy.

From Christmas 2012 through to April 2013 things started to get worse in terms of the way I was feeling and I was started to have panic attacks and had a real fear of going to bed at night. Eventually I decided to try something different to try and fix the problem and this lead me to making an appointment with Diane.

I went in to my 1st appointment with the attitude (perhaps more expectation) that if it didn’t work – then at least I could say I tried and could cross it off my list of things to try. During that 1st visit we went through the whole history  of my symptoms, what my diet was etc.

When we had been through all that, Diane gave me a diet plan to try for the following weeks before my next appointment. When she gave me the plan she said I would notice a difference within “2 to 3 days”  I had been in pain for 10 years so I didn’t think I would be pain free in 2-3 days. I was wrong!  3 days later I was pain free and it was such a strange feeling to go through a whole day without pain or discomfort, it felt extremely odd!   Soon 1 day turned into 2, and soon became weeks – I have been totally amazed at the difference.

Diane was so professional and thorough in her diagnosis and testing programme, I felt well taken care of.  Each appointment led to new challenges and discoveries about my diet and how it affected my body.  Not only am I feeling way better, I have felt like I have  more energy and have been less grumpy with all that stress off my shoulders.   All in all I am glad I made the decision to go and see Diane as its been well worth it.  I highly recommend Diane’s services.

It was only a couple of years ago that I noticed the same symptoms I had when I wasn’t gluten free coming back – bloated, sore, tired and of course inconsistent bowel motions that would either be constipation or diarrhoea. Turns out I was lactose intolerant too.
After just a few days of being off dairy, my symptoms faded. My health then began to deteriorate with continued troubles with my bowel motions and sharp pains in my abdomen. After several admissions to hospital, being put on various medications and finally six months later I was diagnosed with IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). Initially it was a great relief to know what was going on and to have an answer, but with not being given much information or advice on how to live with it other than what I was already doing with my diet I felt somewhat lost. Once again, my health deteriorated, this time it was my energy levels – feeling very tired and low, being bloated most of the time and having inconsistent bowel motions.

Another trip to the doctor and I was referred to see Diane Stride. Diane talked through my weekly diet and then explained in a very easy-to-understand-way of how certain foods can cause problems with those of us that suffer from IBS and/or Coeliacs. Diane really enlightened me; everything she was saying made perfect sense. There were a lot of foods I was eating that someone who suffers from both IBS and Coeliacs should avoid. After being given advice on how to make changes to my diet over a four week period, my new diet began.

After the first few days I really started to notice changes – my tummy was flat, I had a routine to my bowel motions and I was beginning to feel ‘normal’. At first I thought it was too good to be true, that the next day I would become bloated or I would have diarrhoea or constipation, but that didn’t happen. For four weeks I felt a huge change – my symptoms had disappeared, I was feeling great, I had a normal toilet routine, my tummy remained flat and people were commenting on how healthy I was looking. Well, that has continued! I haven’t had any symptoms that I was previously experiencing and I really feel like a heavy burden has been lifted and I have a new lease on life. To not need to worry about rushing to the toilet or feeling self conscious about being constantly bloated has made such a positive difference not only to my health, but to my general wellbeing. I really feel like I am normal again! I am very grateful to Diane and her knowledge and expertise in this area.

I would happily recommend anyone that suffers from similar symptoms to go and see her and get yourself sorted and back to normal. Yes, normal is possible!

I have always suspected I have a problem with certain foods. I have found out I am unable to eat egg products but have felt there was something else that was causing headaches, puffy eyes, fuzzy headedness, fatigue and a general feeling of unwellness. I have often looked at other people and their energy with envy. I had allergy tests and tested negative for food allergies. I felt I was imagining things and was at a loss as to what was causing me to feel this way when I thought I was eating a healthy balanced diet with a minimum of processed foods. I suspected it was a food or food group that was causing me to feel bad but was at a loss as to where to go to get help.

I was feeling desperate when I read Diane’s advert in our local paper. She is the first person I have found that tests for food chemicals and additives. I made an appointment with a sense of hope and a feeling that I had nothing to lose.

It is the best thing I have done for myself. Under Diane’s guidance I am identifying the food chemicals that are causing my problem. We are still in the process of testing, I am already feeling better and am excited that I am getting answers at long last. The first thing this course did for me was acknowledging I wanted change and needed help and actually investing time in my week for my health. Carving out two hours plus travel time was like the first step.

Having the courage to be open and honest in a group setting instead of a private 1 to 1 setting was the second step. Learning to love and give to myself as much as I give to others in my life was a new awareness the course brought to my attention as I was unaware I had stopped caring about my needs and nurturing myself with kindness. I had not realised the negative impact my thoughts and feelings about myself and my body were having on me and my mindset and self worth and self esteem. I would never talk or treat or neglect someone they way I was myself. Making and taking time for me is as important as everything else and everyone else, so the biggest thing I came  away with was the need to be kind and gentle with my self talk and love myself first.

I have struggled with being overweight for 30 years. I realised early on that my battle was really with food rather than weight. While I managed to lose weight a few times by restricting the food I ate for a few weeks at a time, I could never maintain it for long and so my weight would soon balloon again. I felt like I had a secret (eating) life and I felt ashamed of being fat. Over the years I tried everything I ever came across to try to stop overeating. But no matter what, all I ever wanted to do was eat and eat and eat. I think that maybe I was the Hungry Caterpillar in a previous life.

In 2014, at 44, I had a health scare that meant I was in Critical Care for 5 days. While wired to the hospital bed I reflected on my life. I was proud of everything, and at peace with everything, except that I had never been able to figure out how to stop overeating and was potentially going to die fat. As it transpired, I didn’t die and so I left hospital determined that I would now stop over eating and lose weight. Instead I gained over 10 kg in as many weeks. I felt both panic stricken and entirely hopeless.
 
Even though I was so sure there was nothing left for me to try, other than surgery, I went to Diane to see if she could help me. I was not hopeful. Yet Diane was so calm and clear and kept it really simple for me – and told me to follow an approach to eating that I had never heard of before. It turned out I didn’t know everything about losing weight after all!
 
Diane outlined an approach to eating, a lifestyle, on a single A4 sheet of paper with only a dozen or so words. As Diane went through it with me, it seemed like it was something I could do. It involved eating rather than starving which was a great start! It also involved foods I loved and so, with Diane’s encouragement, I could focus on eating these things (rather than focusing on what I wasn’t going to be eating anymore). 
 
Diane asked me what worried me most about following this recommended lifestyle and gave me simple pragmatic solutions for each of the worries I raised. Diane’s solutions gave me the breakthrough I needed to get started with this new way of eating.
 
Perhaps the most impactful difference to the approach to eating Diane gave me was that there was no mention of quantities. This allowed me to change what I ate without worrying about when or how much I ate. Diane has given me no expectation of how much I should lose or by when - yet has reassured me results will come, and continue to come. This approach was magic as it stopped me worrying about some destination weight and getting there within a specified time-frame.
 
Once when I became confused, I emailed Diane for direction and she immediately clarified things for me and got me back on track with focusing on enjoying the new lifestyle rather than worrying about how fast the weight was coming off.
 
In addition to the original single A4 sheet, Diane has also given me recipes, tips and ideas to help me maintain variety in my eating. I have only met with Diane 3-4 times in the last 8 months and yet have lost over 20kg following her simple approach to eating. I have not weighed or measured what I eat. I have just followed the lifestyle. More importantly I have my energy back and no longer have seriously swollen feet.
 
I am now trusting that the balance of weight will come off over time. I am also now entirely hopeful, for the first time in my adult life, that I can sustain this simple and satisfying approach to eating and therefore ultimately sustain a normal weight for the rest of my life.

It was with a great deal of scepticism and caution that I agreed to do this course with Diane. I was however, determined to go in with a completely open mind as what do I know in the grand scheme of things and I had nothing to lose if it worked (other than a few excess pounds). I had for a number of years been dealing with an incredible amount of stress, over and above your everyday stresses (which are sufficient for any person to cope with) and while I worked hard at trying to reduce and eliminate that stress I just couldn’t quite get over the edge of letting it all go so I could move forward with some peace and happiness at life. 
 
As far as courses go it was easy, I just had to listen, take in some sensible pragmatic ideas, I didn’t have to explain my past and dredge up any number of painful experiences, I got to sit looking out at the most beautiful landscape and just be for 90 minutes every week while Diane did her magic. I did have to participate in some “meditation” (which was a bit like tree hugging for me) but it worked! I don’t know why, I don’t even want to know why, it just did. I’m now converted and every opportunity I get, I recommend anyone to give it a go.
 
I can honestly say it has been decades since I have felt this calm, peaceful, relaxed and free. I have tools, very easy ones, to bring me back to this state if I need to, my mind is no longer racing off on some wild tangent that I can’t control, I can make basic practical decisions again without fearing the consequences and I have Diane to thank. Richard came to see me a few months ago for weight loss. He needed to have surgery to his knees, but the surgeon wanted him to first lose weight. Richard was highly motivated to change his habits. I first assessed what he was doing and gave him a meal plan to help guide him through losing weight. Richard has never ceased to amaze me with his positive attitude about the changes he has had to make. Even after all these months and all those shed kilograms, he is still finding the whole process easy. It is very rewarding to see him walk so much easier and to know that he is able to partake in many more activities now, due to changes he has taken on board and decided to make. I started out at 104kg and after three months I am now 84kg, and this resulted in cancelling the knee operation. I am able to walk now without pain and my general health is much better. Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a disorder affecting approximately 10% of reproductive-aged women.

My journey with polycystic ovaries began over 11 years ago !! Throughout this time my weight has fluctuated up and down, and so did the diets that I tried!! My journey with polycystic ovaries began over 11 years ago !! Throughout this time my weight has fluctuated up and down, and so did the diets that I tried!! I suffered with irregular, very painful, very heavy and very long periods, low energy levels and bad moods and a desperate need to eat lots of sweet food!!

My doctor was very helpful and after some consultations and treatments I was referred to a specialist. However, in August I received a letter to say that I was being removed from the waiting list. And that was my turning point, I had to do something!!

A friend recommended I see Diane who might be able to help. So on the 3rd of September I crept into the waiting room with no idea of what to expect.  Out comes a lovely lady with a warm friendly smile. Diane was amazing. She was very friendly, non judgemental, calm and most importantly to me, I found her very easy to talk to!! After a wonderful chat we set out a new way of eating.  I did initially panic as my past experiences told my that in a couple of weeks I would be back raiding the cupboards. However with great support and guidance by Diane, I am still maintaining it with ease after 3 months, and I feel fabulous. I still have the odd symptom, but they are no where near what I was experiencing before.  My periods are shorter, lighter and regular with a small amount of discomfort. I have heaps of energy, no more bad moods and I don’t want anything sweet.  What a change around!!

Since the onset I have tried many different ‘remedies’ with varying degrees of success. When Diane came and talked to a women’s group that I attend, I was ticking all the boxes that applied to me as she spoke, and there were many.

At my first visit Diane started me on a cleansing diet for three weeks and within three days my pain started to go and my fatigue levels improved so much I felt like a new woman! It was the first time in twenty years I had been without pain of some kind. Needless to say I am very motivated to stick to the diet very carefully and follow Diane’s instructions as I trial different foods to see which ones don’t agree with me. I am hoping to be able to reduce my medical regime once my diet is established.

The lifestyles Diane has assisted both Mum and I to adopt are entirely different. I really appreciate that Diane has the knowledge to apply different solutions to different problems, the ability to adapt these solutions to suite our personal circumstances, and the sensitivity to help us adopt these solutions at our own pace.

For some ten years I have suffered from pain and tension in both the abdomen and stomach.  During this period I have had four colonoscopy’s and many ultrasounds.  The pain has never been constant, or consistently in the same place,  “a moveable feast” I describe it as.   It has not disturbed my sleep and most days I have woken pain free with the tension creeping on as the day has progressed.  My bowel movements have been quite erratic.

For two months now I have been guided by Diane and her program known as “Foodmaps”. This has had a huge effect on my health.  My husband will bear testament to the new me.  I have had several comments observing the brightness in my eyes and can honestly say the improvement to my discomfort has been immense.

About 14 months prior to seeing Diane, I had blood tests to see if gluten was causing my tummy upsets. One of the markers came back positive, so under the guidance of my GP, I immediately went on a gluten free diet and after a couple of weeks, my tummy settled down. Not only am I living a life of eating an abundance of delicious seasonal vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, cereals, breads, lean meat, sea food and the odd treat, my husband and three children are being truly nourished by the foods we are eating as a family.

I can honestly say our family food bill has halved with the massive reduction in the processed pre-packaged foods that no longer dominate the pantry (or our lunchboxes)! Eating well certainly doesn't mean spending lots of money. As a 40-year-old mum of three and full-time kindergarten teacher, I have loads of energy and vitality and a most-of-the-time happy tummy. I feel fantastic! My weight is the best it has ever been and best of all, I am not starving myself to achieve it!  

Diane's approach doesn't provide a quick-fix diet that is hard to maintain and is destined to fail. Instead, Diane provides education on nourishing our bodies in the best possible way with REAL food.

Diane helped my father change his diet totally. He suffers from MS, an autoimmune disease and Diane suggested a change of diet might be beneficial to cope with the disease. Since it didn't involve any medications my father was willing to try it for 3 months and see if there was any improvement.

The eating program was very different to what he used to eat and I wondered how he would stick with it. Diane was so supportive and gave us wonderful recipes and alternative foods that he was able to cope with the change very well. Diane gave us realistic advise as to the effect of the new diet - this was not a cure of MS. We have seen though, quite a marked improvement in the last 3 months in that his energy levels have increased and the deterioration rate seems to have slowed down.

Diane was able to tell us who the suppliers of specialist foods were, that made sticking to the program easier. The improvement we have seen in my father has made this eating program a life-change rather than a short term diet. Diane's support through the visits and answering our questions via email was invaluable. I would highly recommend anyone with an autoimmune disease to try this eating program with Diane.

Having found Diane’s website and the fact that Diane had irritable bowel and had specialised in food intolerances in Australia at the Allergy clinics, I decided I had nothing to lose as my quality of life was becoming affected.

My daughter had a stomach infection over a year ago, which had lasting effects of stomach cramps, diarrhoea, dizziness, feeling sick etc and after going to the doctor for months, and with no improvement and being told it was probably Irritable Bowel Syndrome, we were all feeling that progress was going backwards not forwards. Luckily for us we were referred to Diane who has changed my daughter back into a happy, sporty and healthy girl once again.
