This course has completely changed the way I view my relationship with food. It has helped me to take a deeper look at how and why I eat. In a safe and non-judgemental environment I have been able to share my experiences with others who are also struggling with food. Dieting and weight loss used to involve a lot of guilt and negativity but not any more. I now have the tools to change my deeply ingrained habitual eating patterns from a place of love and nurturing. I'm the only one that can do it. And I will. Because I'm worth it! You are too!

I am now on a new journey

Diane is a registered dietitian who has also invested enormously in her education in psychology, mindfulness training and the treatment of eating disorders but more importantly invests herself wholeheartedly in helping persons find effective ways to heal from very painful and difficult conditions and disorders. To be effective in these fields takes a great deal more than formal education, even from such distinguished institutions as Oxford.  To effectively help persons with the pain and suffering experienced in these kinds of disorders requires at least a commensurate personal investment in cultivating mindfulness, compassion and loving kindness skills. These skills can only be learned in the cauldrons of human suffering, both in the rawness of our individual lives but also in serving the lives of others. It’s clear to me that Diane has spent a great deal of time in both.

The first thing this course did for me was acknowledging I wanted change and needed help and actually investing time in my week for my health. Carving out two hours plus travel time was like the first step.

Having the courage to be open and honest in a group setting instead of a private 1 to 1 setting was the second step. Learning to love and give to myself as much as I give to others in my life was a new awareness the course brought to my attention as I was unaware I had stopped caring about my needs and nurturing myself with kindness. I had not realised the negative impact my thoughts and feelings about myself and my body were having on me and my mindset and self worth and self esteem. I would never talk or treat or neglect someone they way I was myself. Making and taking time for me is as important as everything else and everyone else, so the biggest thing I came  away with was the need to be kind and gentle with my self talk and love myself first.

I got so much out of this course.  It was a bit daunting to be in a course with complete strangers, but as the weeks went on I found that we all had very similar issues. Diane was lovely.  The sessions were all so well thought out, so that the whole course built on the week before....

I got so much out of this course.  It was a bit daunting to be in a course with complete strangers, but as the weeks went on I found that we all had very similar issues. Diane was lovely.  The sessions were all so well thought out, so that the whole course built on the week before.  The course wasn’t about food or dieting.  It was about mindfulness and self-acceptance.  Over the eight weeks, I have found that I am slowly getting to accept myself more.  Not fully there yet, but well on my way.
