….about Irritable Bowel Syndrome

My daughter had a stomach infection over a year ago, which had lasting effects of stomach cramps, diarrhoea, dizziness, feeling sick etc and after going to the doctor for months, and with no improvement and being told it was probably Irritable Bowel Syndrome, we were all feeling that progress was going backwards not forwards. Luckily for us we were referred to Diane who has changed my daughter back into a happy, sporty and healthy girl once again.

Luckily for us we were referred to Diane who has changed my daughter back into a happy, sporty and healthy girl once again.  It is amazing the difference that learning what your body can digest / tolerate has on your well being.  Having professional help to achieve this has been brilliant and I can not thank Diane enough for her guidance in getting my daughter healthy again.

Since I was 18 years old, I struggled with joint pains and inflammation in various parts of my body – ribs, eyes, sacro-ileac, etc.  In my early 20’s, it was sometimes so debilitating, that I could barely move my leg without being in excruciating pain.  I lived on and off Prednisone (a steroid used to treat inflammation) all through my adult years and then in later years, I had to take more significant medications to further surpress my immune system.

I never slept right through the night and often had to take sleeping tablets.  Irrespective of what I did, the first words I uttered every day when I woke up were “ I am so exhausted.”

Since changing the way I eat (based on training I did via America through Dietitians working successfully with clients with auto-immune diseases), I have not had to take any medication for joint flare-ups at all (not even anti-inflammatories or Panadol).  This has been for 6 months!  I have had no pain in that time, other than when I did my food challenges.  This is the first time I have ever been pain free for more than a few days.

In addition, I never need sleeping tablets, as I now don’t have issues with sleeping, and I wake up feeling refreshed every day.

Diet doesn’t cure the disease, but it may be one of the triggers.  It is exciting for me to be able to share this knowledge with others and to see if I can give other people freedom from living with joint pains.

I was a client of Diane's last year and I must say seeing Diane was one of the best things I have ever done! About 14 months prior to seeing Diane, I had blood tests to see if gluten was causing my tummy upsets. One of the markers came back positive, so under the guidance of my GP, I immediately went on a gluten free diet and after a couple of weeks, my tummy settled down. I still had tummy issues, headaches and difficulty budging a couple of kilos, so that is why I decided to take the plunge and see a dietitian.

From the series of visits with Diane, I went on a journey of finding out other triggers that were upsetting my tummy, giving me headaches and making it difficult to lose weight. What a journey it has been! Not only am I living a life of eating an abundance of delicious seasonal vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, cereals, breads, lean meat, sea food and the odd treat, my husband and three children are being truly nourished by the foods we are eating as a family.

I can honestly say our family food bill has halved with the massive reduction in the processed pre-packaged foods that no longer dominate the pantry (or our lunchboxes)! Eating well certainly doesn't mean spending lots of money. As a 40-year-old mum of three and full-time kindergarten teacher, I have loads of energy and vitality and a most-of-the-time happy tummy. I feel fantastic! My weight is the best it has ever been and best of all, I am not starving myself to achieve it!  

Diane's approach doesn't provide a quick-fix diet that is hard to maintain and is destined to fail. Instead, Diane provides education on nourishing our bodies in the best possible way with REAL food.

It was with a great deal of scepticism and caution that I agreed to do this course with Diane. I was however, determined to go in with a completely open mind as what do I know in the grand scheme of things and I had nothing to lose if it worked (other than a few excess pounds). I had for a number of years been dealing with an incredible amount of stress, over and above your everyday stresses (which are sufficient for any person to cope with) and while I worked hard at trying to reduce and eliminate that stress I just couldn’t quite get over the edge of letting it all go so I could move forward with some peace and happiness at life. 
 
As far as courses go it was easy, I just had to listen, take in some sensible pragmatic ideas, I didn’t have to explain my past and dredge up any number of painful experiences, I got to sit looking out at the most beautiful landscape and just be for 90 minutes every week while Diane did her magic. I did have to participate in some “meditation” (which was a bit like tree hugging for me) but it worked! I don’t know why, I don’t even want to know why, it just did. I’m now converted and every opportunity I get, I recommend anyone to give it a go.
 
I can honestly say it has been decades since I have felt this calm, peaceful, relaxed and free. I have tools, very easy ones, to bring me back to this state if I need to, my mind is no longer racing off on some wild tangent that I can’t control, I can make basic practical decisions again without fearing the consequences and I have Diane to thank. I whole heartedly recommend anyone that is looking for that magic fix to give this a go. It’s a wonderful experience.

I came to this course because I realised how stress can be so real in my life.  I couldn’t always understand why I felt the stress or anxiousness I did, so I thought this course may help in that way to give me a better understanding.  It has really opened my mind up to so many things, and been a really gentle experience and so practical in lots of ways too.  The course has been extremely informative, and now I have been given great tools.  I already feel that this course is the beginning a of better lifestyle.

For some ten years I have suffered from pain and tension in both the abdomen and stomach.  During this period I have had four colonoscopy’s and many ultrasounds.  The pain has never been constant, or consistently in the same place,  “a moveable feast” I describe it as.   It has not disturbed my sleep and most days I have woken pain free with the tension creeping on as the day has progressed.  My bowel movements have been quite erratic.

For two months now I have been guided by Diane and her program known as “Foodmaps”. This has had a huge effect on my health.  My husband will bear testament to the new me.  I have had several comments observing the brightness in my eyes and can honestly say the improvement to my discomfort has been immense.

Over the past month I have slowly introduced some of those foods that have been removed, taking note of any side effects.  I have kept a diary of my food and bowel movements.

Diane has been most professional in her approach to my complaint.  She has a great knowledge of food groups and their effect on Irritable bowel.  She has been very easy to talk to, a great listener supporting her suggestions with good explanations.

Finding the food sources I need for my body to function better.

It’s been interesting to see what the gene results have shown in relation to what I eat and how my body absorbs various nutrients.

It’s been interesting to see what the gene results have shown in relation to what I eat and how my body absorbs various nutrients.  Having a book to look at, showing the foods I should be consuming, will be very good for me. The most useful thing I learnt from the test was the particular food sources and what I need for my body to function better.
