I am a New Zealand registered Dietitian and Nutritionist based in Hawke’s Bay. I obtained my BSc degree in Dietetics and a Post Graduate Diploma in South Africa at the University of Natal, Pietermaritzburg. I am also an Accredited Practitioner for the Australian Centre for Eating Disorders. In addition I am an ACT (Acceptance Committment Therapy) Practioner.
I am a dietitian who is passionate about helping people achieve health through nutrition and operate from a clinic in Havelock North. I am also available for telephone and skype consultations for people outside of the Hawkes Bay area.
My initial experience was working in hospitals, predominantly in the paediatric area of nutrition where I worked as part of a multidisciplinary team , including paediatricians and speech language therapists.
After taking an extended break from work while I completed my family of three lovely children, I went back to work mainly in the area of Quality Assurance for a food service provider.
Due to my own personal journey with bowel issues, I became increasingly interested in food allergies and intolerances and therefore embarked on a self-initiated training course to up-skill myself in this area.
This involved spending time at a specialist allergy unit in Auckland, as well as allergy clinics attached to hospitals in Sydney and Melbourne. During this time I was privileged to spend time with gastroenterologists, immunologists, dietitians working specifically in this field, as well as nurses involved in administering the skin prick tests and food challenges.
As part of my time, I also attended a workshop especially tailored to looking at Irritable Bowel Syndrome and the role of diet, as well as spending time at a clinic where they specialise in this area and are actively involved in the research around it.
If you read the “my journey” section under Testimonials, you will see that I have had lifelong issues with an auto-immune/inflammatory condition. I have managed to minimize the effects of this condition on my life through diet. The result of this was due to training via America where dietitians have been having a lot of success with diet and autoimmune conditions.
I have subsequently helped other clients improve their quality of life through diet.
Over the past year and a half, I have become interested in the role that stress plays in health and weight. For this reason, I developed my Mind, Body and Soul Courses - one for Stress and one for Emotional Eating. It was my desire to run these courses in a peaceful, beautiful setting. What better place than the beautiful Tuki-Tuki valley. More information can be seen by going to the "courses" section of my website.
